2025 marks 100 years since Stoke-on-Trent was granted city status by His Majesty King George V, and throughout the year, the city has been alive with celebration.
The first application for city status was actually refused by the Home Office because Stoke-on-Trent had fewer than 300,000 inhabitants. It was a direct approach to King George V which changed the course of our history and on 5th June 1925, Stoke-on-Trent gained its well-deserved city status in recognition of its considerable contributions to the pottery industry.
To celebrate this milestone year designer Kerry Goodwin has created a delightful duo with her Our Stoke-on-Trent 100 vase and plaque, transporting us back to a time when bottle ovens dominated our skyline. An old ‘Stokie’ chap takes a stroll along the canal while smoke from the kilns rises into the sky.
