A beautifully formed rose, inspired by a hand-coloured engraving of a rose styled as Rosa spinosissima var. luteola from Henry Cranke Andrews’s ‘Roses: or a Monograph of the Genus Rosa’ Volume 1 (London, 1805-1828), nestles in a thicket of dark green foilage the botanical artist, engraver and colourist created nearly two hundred years ago. Designer Emma Bossons chose a small Moorcroft vase to depict this delightful rose with its cupped, single creamy blooms and prominent yellow stamens, in homage to Andrews.
