The Japanese apricot (Prunus mume), known as ume in Japan, is highly significant as a cherished symbol of early spring, resilience, and renewal. Blooming in late winter, typically between February and March, the ume flower appears before the cherry blossoms, bringing colour and fragrance to the landscape while colder weather still lingers.

Nicola Slaney takes us on a journey to Japan, capturing the country’s rich heritage and timeless beauty through her distinctive design style. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for evoking the spirit of the places she visits, Nicola draws upon traditional Japanese motifs including graceful cranes and mystical koi carp.

She transports us to the iconic Mount Fuji, with its instantly recognisable silhouette, while celebrating elegant blossoms and the delicate natural forms found within Japan’s flora and fauna.
