De Morgan frequently used snakes in his work due to his love of symbolism and in her Hidden Serpent design, Nicola set out to capture the mythical quality that is so characteristic of his ceramics.

Snakes carry rich, layered meanings, often representing renewal, transformation, and rebirth. Drawing inspiration from De Morgan's approach, Nicola has created a striking visual contrast between two opposing elements: delicate, soft flowers and the dark, mythical presence of the serpent. This juxtaposition echoes the way De Morgan often balanced beauty with mystery.
