It is thrilling to catch sight of a barn owl. These elusive hunters can be difficult to spot, but their distinctive and haunting calls are a way to identify them. January is a great time for owling, as owls are calling more frequently to attract mates or claim their territory.  Barn owls are most often seen hunting at dawn or dusk when the darkness of night fades to a rich midnight blue, just as it does in Kerry’s inaugural monthly miniature, setting off the night owls’ pale wings in the twilight.
