Arts and Crafts designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh developed his own unique style of design, a contrast between strong right angles and floral inspired decorative motifs with subtle curves, such as Mackintosh’s rose motif. In Rachel’s Caledonia Rose a ruby red rose is framed by pale turquoise blue tulips, green leaves and dark blue panels which small squares of dark blue create a framework around the central rose.
