Originally designed by Florence Attwood, Merrythought’s beloved Bear Cub, ‘Bingie’, first appeared in the inaugural 1931 catalogue. Charmingly described as ‘cuddly and winsome’, this endearing bear appeared in a variety of sizes and outfits until the 1950s.
Lovingly recreated as part of Merrythought’s Heritage Collection, Bingie is meticulously hand-crafted from wavy light gold mohair plush and pure wool felt, capturing the unique charm of the original design. Made in Bingie’s distinctive seated pose, with unjointed lower legs and jointed arms, every detail has been carefully brought back to life, from his characterful hand-stitched nose and claws to his signature downward-facing paws. Finished with a terracotta traditional grosgrain ribbon.
As with each character in Merrythought’s Heritage Collection, Bingie features an authentic replica of our earliest ‘hygienic toys’ label, positioned on the inside leg, and is individually numbered as part of a Special Edition.
Presented in a pure cotton dust bag with a Certificate of Authenticity.
