Charles Rennie Mackintosh was an architect, artist, designer, watercolourist and one of the most important figures in the Arts and Crafts movement. He contrasted angular forms and floral decorative motifs with subtle curves and became renowned for the ‘Mackintosh rose’ motif. For June, the month of his birth, Rachel’s red stylised rose, with dark purple centre, is framed with intricate tubelined circles in myriad colours. It pays homage to the rose designs Mackintosh created at Glebe Place from 1915-1923.
