Celebrating the Centenary of the Royal Air Force

Right on the doorstep of Stoke-on-Trent, is an area of phenomenal natural beauty; the Peak District National Park. The park is made up of dramatic, heather-speckled moorland, hardy gritstone escarpments, ancient caves, rivers of the purest quality and unique ecology, all interspersed with pretty Northern villages and towns such as Bakewell and Buxton. Great pride for the Park is felt within Vicky's design. The natural shades of indigo and moss-green express everything that can be said about the Great British outdoors. In each third of the vase, Derwent Reservoir is pictured with the 617 Squadron practising the low-level flights needed for Operation Chastise or ‘Dam Busters'. Occasional flypasts of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at the reservoir are still staged to commemorate the events during the war. In September 2014, a unique and never to be repeated flypast took place involving the two-remaining airworthy Lancaster's, one from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and one from Canada, flying three passes in formation. On this prestige vase, that tribute is preserved forever. No small surprise, therefore, that one of these two legendary aircraft made a return flight over our Sandbach Road Factory on the day of the company's centenary, waggling its wings in salute as it did so.
