This is one of the most ambitious paperweight projects ever undertaken by Royal Crown Derby. For the first time a paperweight has been cast in three pieces, with the steps and chimney fitted to the main body before the first biscuit firing. The lavish design incorporates eleven different ceramic colours including the rich in-glaze cobalt blue used on the roof, which requires an additional firing. The complex shape has no fewer than 29 individual litho applications. The intricacy of the shape has also meant a prodigious amount of hand gilding that can only be undertaken by the most skilled and senior Royal Crown Derby gilders.
