The secondary market for Royal Crown Derby paperweights remains extremely buoyant as the number of new collectors continues to grow. As a consequence of this the number of 'dealers' trading in paperweights has also increased. Govier's is delighted to offer its paperweight exchange service for the benefit of collectors (rather than dealers) to provide the opportunity to trade discontinued paperweights at fair prices.
To ensure the service is not usurped by dealers, we will not ordinarily accept paperweights that have been discontinued within the last 3 years. Govier's often carries stocks of recently discontinued paperweights that are sold at the original price unlike many other retailers who inflate their prices. This applies equally to our own special limited editions, which, if we have any available, will always be sold at their issue price. For this reason, we regret we do not accept our own editions back for the exchange service.
The service operates as follows:
- Customers wishing to offer paperweights discontinued for at least 3 years may display them at Govier's. They must decide the price they wish them to be offered, subject to Govier's guidelines, which reflect collector to collector prices rather than top-end dealer prices.
- Once Govier's has sold a paperweight, the seller will receive credit for the full sale vlaue to spend on any current merchandise available at Govier's.
- Discontinued paperweights offered through the exchange will be displayed at Govier's shop in Sidmouth. Purchasers must view them personally as they will be sold "AS SEEN". We regret there is NO mail order service available on these pieces.
This service offers a unique opportunity for 3 parties to do well from the same transaction. The purchaser is happy to pay a fair price; the vendor receives full value from the sale and Govier's benefits from a sale that would otherwise not be made.
Please note that second quality pieces do not sell well and would be priced at 50% or less of the low price.
